About RISA
Refugee Independent Schools Association (RISA) is a non-governmental organization whose aim and objective is to unify all private schools in Dzaleka refugee camp in order to promote high quality education by respecting the Malawi national syllabus as well as the law to promote cultural integration and sustainable development within Dzaleka community through education.
RISA works with over 40 member schools, supporting 472 teachers and serving 27,000 students across refugee and host communities. Our organization ensures that all private schools in Dzaleka refugee camp maintain high standards of education while following the Malawi national curriculum.
RISA Strategic Objectives
(i) Provision of monthly visit to all private schools' locations
(ii) Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with teachers, head teachers, directors and parents, teachers' association (PTA)
(iii) Instill and enforce discipline in all schools as it is the back bone of education
(iv) Promote team work among schools, members of staff and all stake holders through regular meetings
(v) Arrange for trips for directors to learn from other schools
(vi) Inviting resource persons to train unqualified teachers in various educational ethics whenever there is a need
(vii) To provide a platform for the civil society and communities to use education and culture as a way of tackling human rights violations and social injustice.
(viii) To promote research and documentation on education and sustainable development and safeguard interests of teachers in various private schools in Dzaleka Refugee Camp.
